On 1 December 2024, the newly appointed College of Commissioners took over the business of the EU executive. In the first six months of its five-year mandate, the von der Leyen II Commission set the programmatic tone of a 'farm-centred food policy' in the agri-food sector, which places the interests of primary production at the centre of the food chain. The intensification of the geopolitical challenges facing the European Union has given the aspect of security of supply more weight than ever before. Without claiming to be exhaustive (and expressly omitting the highly complex topic of Deforestation Regulation and other supply chain-related legislative acts, subject to simplification 'Omnibuses' and obfuscating food and non-food), the new political guidelines and initiated measures as at 31 May 2025 are presented below.
